i dunno. i just worked on one of their ‘gaming’ rigs. weird chinese-branded everything. 3 months old, won’t stay running. crashes constantly. re-installs don’t help. it’s trash. the vendor has all but disappeared. still has their storefront but they don’t answer, and amazon won’t help either.

even though i swapped out the atrocious no-name motherboard so now it’s at least usable, i expect to see it again with a failed psu, gpu, or ram.

they might make it on availability or price, but longevity or reliability they have a lot of work to do.

that’s what this one is. if you install what is essentially a beta update, expect the worst. that your computer will not boot back up. that your data went ‘poof’. that kind of ‘worst’. a lost wallpaper and goofed up cursor is nothing compared to what could happen.

the file splits, yea. but it was the recovery records that winrar has that made it become the de facto standard in that place we don’t talk about.

i just set up a new laptop for someone–well just the account bullshit they couldn’t get past. none of the tricks to bypass the microsoft account requirement worked, even the “WinJS” method that was the only known way to do that on s-mode.

i think from here on when someone brings me a new windows POS, i’m gonna just be nuking the oem load and putting a rufus’d one on instead if they want windows (and unfortunately, most do).

we had no cop or ‘resource officer’ at all, in any of the schools i attended (70s-80s minnesota, rural and the cities). the only times we even saw cops at school was when they were conning parents into letting them have our fingerprints, or for what became the annual ‘DARE scare’.

way back when, around the time the northwest was being formally organized, some rep from kentucky proposed ‘washington’ as an alternative to what it would have been, ‘columbia’ (for the river), because ‘columbia’ was part of the name of the nation’s capital. the absolute moron had no brain cells left over to process the fact that ‘washington’ was also a conflicting and confusing name for a state for the same fucking reason… but congress jumped on board the idea of naming a territory (and what would become a state) after the first president.

the sku and item description indicates a third-party sold the item via bestbuy’s web site. it was upgraded by that third party before final sale. the extra ram would be covered by that entity, not bestbuy.

but we do not know if bestbuy actually returned the modules that were originally in the laptop, nor do we know if it was the oem one or the added one that was ‘bad’. we also don’t know if the third-party seller simply added one so-dimm to the original configuration or pulled the original to install a matched pair instead.

if it was the oem one, it should have been covered by lenovo’s warranty, i.e. replaced by bestbuy as a warranty repair–the laptop having been upgraded is irrelevant to that remedy.

they aren’t there to ‘stop crime’. they’re a flex to boost the ever-so-fragile ego of a little whiny baby that sometimes parks his fat ass at 1600 penn ave.

they’ll just start hiding them better… and in places that are most certainly a bad idea to tamper with, like embedded right inside stop lights
