Mainstream news are all negative. If you are struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel, try to look up newspapers/publications with only positive news. A lot of them don’t get reported at all by normal media.

The Hormuz crisis might have also been a good incentive for people to think about buying an electric car or install solar panels (we don’t know yet its effect).

Progress is slow, but progress is being made in the right direction. You have to believe in a future, otherwise it’s too tempting to just to give up!
I should publish a blog post titled “Using Antropic’s Claude is a Perversion of Writing”. If you are taking AI output and thinking it’s good and engaging, you are making a load-bearing mistake.
Joking aside, the criticism can come only after they implement it and we can see if it’s having any effect on the output quality. I doubt it’s going to be detectably worse.
If anybody is feeling so strongly against watermarking even before we can evaluate how it affects the output, I am only thinking that they have ulterior motives or they don’t want to be caught spreading copy-pasted slop.

Let me preface this by saying that I am generally against AI and I hate LLMs being pushed everywhere, but I currently hate facebook and social media even more than AI.
I think that ad blocking might actually be a good use of a model trained to detect ads: AI models are “black boxes” and it would make it difficult for facebook to find out precisely how the detection works and workaround it. Imagine a tiny classifier running locally, whose only job is to look at a post html or resulting rendered pixels and detecting if it’s an ad or not, and then generating the blocking rules.
It would be quite cool, because it would work on any website without an explicit list of ad-blocking rules that somebody needs to maintain.

Yes I never trusted it fully, and I would strongly suggest anyone to run it in a VM or at least a container, where it doesn’t have access to your credentials, browser cookies and sensitive files. It’s very irresponsible otherwise.
Example: around 1 year ago the bot made a small coding mistake and created a ‘~’ folder. I asked it to delete it (not in auto mode) and of course it went with a very nice “rm -rf ~” (which of course I denied).
Modern models are much smarter, but I would not trust the auto classifier to stop everything dangerous and make a similar hallucination slip through.

Yes, such a shame. I really wanted them to succeed.
I played splitgate 1 and 2 since the beginning (and I am still checking it out sometimes).
My feeling is that they launched too early and they wasted too much time on their battle royale mode, probably trying to attract compulsive spenders kids.
Linux got added shortly after launch, before BR got added if I remember right, which is fair for a beta/early access. But IMHO it went out of beta way too quickly, before they fixed many of the complaints. When they realized they fucked up, they went back into beta and tried to relaunch later (weird move, and probably turned off many of the remaining players).
IMHO the game problem is that they made it revolve a lot around BR, with not enough map variety for normal arena modes. They clearly wanted BR to be the mode everyone plays most. The arena maps had a distinct lack of portal surfaces, and BR was also weird with a limited amount of portals available, which defeats the game’s selling point. The fans of the game also wanted an arena shooter, not another fortnite.
Nowadays arena is much better with more maps (they brought back some of the splitgate 1 maps), progression is no longer locked in strange ways and more modes are there.
It’s a shame they failed so badly that they had to lay off people.
The linked video at the end of the article shows the trail, and it’s for sure an expert level trail, full of dangerous sections. The video says the full trail is only 30km long, but they reccommend 2-3 days, it’s full of steep sections, cliffs at the side, false trails leading nowhere, unstable terrain, bears… They were lucky they actually didn’t get seriously injured.
GTNH suffers from this a lot, especially at the beginning 😅
Thousands of items, you always need to carry around at least 5 different tools because you constantly use them.
Even going mining fills up your inventory with so many types of the same ore (raw copper ore, crushed copper, impure copper dust, copper dust, … ), not to mention if you decide to go loot a dungeon.
Also you unlock AE2 200h into the game, so good luck with your chests until then!
It’s a fun modpack though, I still reccommend to try the 2.9 beta and laugh at the ridiculous crafting trees and how painful everything feels (try to craft a door, good luck!)

As a men, I love your answer. I would upvote it 100 times if I could.
The society is always pushing the ideal of men that is bold, strong, independent, commandeering, never showing weakness. It creates a culture of toxic masculinity and deep insecurities that must be kept hidden, otherwise you are admitting to being weak and thus a lesser man. IMHO it’ also a big contributor to the loneliness epidemic and incels existing.
As you said, it’s similar to the problem of the completely unrealistic woman bodies shown in advertisement. It’s unreachable by definition.
If you are a man, be kind, be open to others and be vulnerable. You are enough as you are, you’ll live more happily if you stop chasing whatever others call “perfection”, and start living your life as yourself. You are the strong one for fighting against those deeply unhealthy ideals, instead of succumbing to it.
I really support femnism too: the right of being treated as a valid person, equal to everyone else, should apply to all. Men and women alike.

The “outside any juristiction” part is probably the main reason here.
Try to seize any evidence from servers that are traveling in space 10000 miles/hour. For now also space weapons are mostly in experimental phase, and I assume would cause a lot of debris in orbit. It makes the thousands of satellites in orbit almost untouchable by any government on earth.
The epstein-class has much to benefit from this.
It might also be playing into the distopyan fantasy of putting a superintelligent AI in earth orbit, so that it becomes unstoppable from earth.
In any case nothing good comes out of this.
